Responsibilities

The Chinese Herbal Medicine (CHM) Center Manager provides day-to-day operations and oversight of the Chinese Herbal Medicine Center and is responsible for a variety of activities, which may include any of the following:

 

  • Uses skilled knowledge of Chinese Herbal Medicine to procure and store high quality products as raw herbs, powders, granules, and patents
  • Following instructions of CHM providers, accurately dispenses herbs to patients
  • Oversees compounding of personalized herbal formulas with precise weights and dosage
  • Prepares personalized tablets and capsules
  • Approves safety and effectiveness of any substitutions
  • Consults with CHM providers and patients in response to inquiries
  • Oversees accuracy and timeliness of student workers’ preparation of herbs for patients, as well as administrative duties, such as re-stocking inventory
  • Engages student workers in active learning experiences with herbs
  • Tracks inventory on a weekly basis and orders merchandise to maintain herbal center stock at all times within budgetary guidelines
  • Maintains accurate records, including lot control of herbal products
  • Monitors pricing policies for sale of the herbal products
  • Provides timely sales reports as requested
  • Maintains product database
  • Ensures cleanliness and safety of the herbal center and its compliance with all applicable Federal, state and local agencies
  • Conducts end-of-year inventory at direction of the business office
  • Responds to collaborative opportunities within the University community for inter-professional scholarship and research

Additional responsibilities may be assigned by the supervisor.

Qualifications

 Required:

 

  • A Master’s degree in Acupuncture and Oriental medicine
  • Must hold and maintain an active Acupuncture license (Lic.Ac) for the State as well as a Diplomate of Chinese Herbology as issued by the NCCAOM
  • Minimum of ten years’ experience
  • Must possess an excellent knowledge of Chinese herbs, their identification, naming conventions, and clinical application, and safety issues, including potential cautions, contraindications, and interactions
  • Proficiency in the use of computers including MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and ensure accuracy of work
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, set priorities and meet deadlines
