The Front Desk/ Dental Clinic Assistant assists in the daily operations of the Forsyth School of Dental Hygiene Clinic and the front office.


Front Desk responsibilities:


  • Oversee routine, administrative and support services at the front desk.
  • Welcome and greet patients during check-in/out
  • Answer the phone
  • Manage clinicians’ schedules and confirm appointments.
  • Manage the patient recall system.
  • Manage front desk work study personnel, including training, work allocation, and problem resolution
  • Oversee front office supplies and track expenditures
  • Collect fees for service and manage accounts
  • Maintain and update of all clinic forms and patient handouts
  • Responsible for insurance claim filing
  • Responsible for filing and data entry
  • Maintain the scanning of documents to patient charts
  • Assist students and faculty with patient charts and information
  • Proctor exams as needed
  • Comply with state and local applicable regulations, policies, clinical standards, including but not limited to privacy requirements (HIPPA), quality assurance and safety and environmental protocols

Clinic Responsibilities:


  • Sterilization
  • Equipment maintenance
  • Biological monitoring
  • Clinic stocking
  • Supervising students
  • Assisting faculty and staff with projects

Flexible work schedule, including possible evenings and Saturdays.


Additional responsibilities may be assigned by the supervisor.




  • A minimum of two years of full-time employment in a dental office
  • Massachusetts Dental Assistant  or Dental Hygiene License
  • Current certification in CPR Health Care Provider
  • Knowledge of and a minimum of two years of experience with Dentrix or similar dental practice management software
  • Proficiency with MS Office (Word and Excel)
  • Strong organization skills
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work in accordance with MCPHS and Forsyth School of Dental Hygiene clinic policies
  • Ability to be punctual
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced student-centered and patient-centered environment
  • Ability to work as a member of a team and independently when needed; honesty; integrity and commitment to maintaining high professional standards.

Physical requirements:


  • Standing, sitting, manual dexterity, ability to move between offices and floors of buildings
  • Ability to stand for 2-4 hour periods of time
  • Ability to participate in basic diagnostic and therapeutic maneuvers and procedures in the process of dental hygiene care
  • Sufficient motor function to execute movements reasonably required to properly care for all patients, with or without assistive devices
  • Ability to meet deadlines and perform well under pressure
  • Ability to be physically in attendance at designated worksite during scheduled work hours and to work some evenings and weekends
  • Normal range of vision and hearing (with or without correction)
  • Ability to lift up to 5-10 lbs.
