The Instructional Design Specialist will work with the Sr. Director of Operations & Instructional Support to promote and support the use of instructional technology and provide training and consultation services to assist faculty with integrating teaching and learning technology into their course content to enhance learner outcomes. 


  • Participate as a member of a high-volume instructional design and support unit, providing services to faculty teaching online, face-to-face, or a hybrid classroom.
  • Provide technical assistance in the use of specific software tools including Blackboard, iSpring, Kaltura, Camtasia, Respondus, in alignment with best practices and fundamental teaching and learning pedagogy
  • Assess instructional needs and goals with faculty to identify solutions within current infrastructure and aid in implementing
  • Assist with ensuring quality control measures are met in course delivery, content, etc.
  • Develop, edit, and update support documentation for online teaching tools and participate in development of Center for Teaching and Learning content
  • Works with instructional design team to research and put in practice online learning tools available through Blackboard.
  • Assists instructional design team in providing training opportunities for faculty via varied modalities; creation of engaging training materials using video, audio, or mixed media technologies; presenting to audiences of varied sizes and learning levels

 Additional responsibilities may be assigned by the supervisor.




  • BS degree in instructional technology, design or other instructional education or related degree, and 4-6 years experience with online course design and associated technologies, needs analysis, training, and implementation; or MS/MEd or related degree in similar fields with 2-3 years experience
  • Experience with learning management systems and online learning tools, particularly Blackboard highly desired
  • Requires experience and understanding of the support needs of faculty, both online and classroom-based
  • Demonstrates the ability to work individually and as a member of a professional team, establishing good working relationships with faculty and colleagues
  • Strong communication, organizational and interpersonal skills, and attention to detail
  • Demonstrates proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • General familiarity with online teaching and learning tools and learning management systems
  • Understanding of the need for an environment conducive to respect and accountability at all times
  • Ability to accept and use constructive feedback from colleagues and supervisors
  • Projection of a positive image of the department/program/school and the University
  • Exercise an appropriate chain of command when needing to address issues/concerns.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
  • Problem resolution skills
  • Ability to travel between campuses
