Responsibilities

As an integral part of the Center for Academic Success and Enrichment (CASE) team, the Student Success Coach works one-on-one and in groups with MCPHS students to build a variety of learning, organizational, and study strategies, and to position students for success as they transition to college-level coursework and rigorous academic and professional expectations.

 

  • Provide personalized academic support strategies for students who are proactively seeking assistance, referred by faculty and staff, or on academic probation
  • Assist students on academic probation with the development of individualized Academic Improvement Plans (AIP) and track students’ progress electronically using Blackboard and other data management software
  • Collaborate and consult with faculty and staff to identify student learning and development needs
  • Create skill-building workshops and/or major-specific programming to positively influence the academic success of students
  • Make effective and timely referrals to Disability Support Services, Counseling Services, Tutoring Programs, and other campus partners and departments
  • Maintain records and collect data to assess the effectiveness of student success initiatives
  • Assist students in the understanding and interpretation of academic policies and procedures
  • Build relationships with faculty and staff and serve as a resource for them regarding academic assistance for students
  • Build and share knowledge about best practices in student support and academic success

Additional special projects and responsibilities may be assigned by the supervisor.

Qualifications

Required:

 

  • A master’s degree in Education, Psychology or Counseling, with a strong understanding of professional based programs
  • Knowledge of how students learn, manage time and use learning strategies or supplemental instruction
  • Previous experience providing academic counseling and learning strategies to college students
  • Ability to work with students from diverse cultural backgrounds and students with a variety of learning styles
  • Previous experience developing and implementing academic programming at the college level
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills

Desired:

 

  • A minimum of two years providing academic counseling and learning strategies to college students
  • Experience with college students on probation and students in science-based majors
