The Associate Director of Talent Acquisition is responsible for leading the University’s talent acquisition initiatives, working closely with senior leaders and hiring managers to provide strategic direction for the recruitment and acquisition of talent to support overall organization performance. The Associate Director develops, executes and measures talent acquisition strategies to provide a best practice end-to-end candidate experience and that is aligned with the University’s mission, vision and values; works with hiring managers to attract, recruit, source, screen, interview, select and on-board new hires; and utilizes technology to support and streamline talent acquisition, hiring and on-boarding of new hires. This position reports to the Chief Human Resources Officer.


  • Develop a talent acquisition strategy to attract and hire top tier talent, for both staff and faculty, in the various schools, departments and programs
  • Develop efficiencies to improve the overall talent acquisition process, streamline search protocols, and develop online tools to support search efforts
  • Collaborate with hiring managers as well as applicable offices to assess effective strategies to increase diversity of candidate pools
  • Develop a social media presence for the University’s talent acquisition efforts utilizing LinkedIn, Twitter, and other recognized social media tools
  • Develop working relationships with hiring managers to understand their staffing needs and assist in the development of job descriptions
  • Collaborate with hiring managers and leadership to identify, develop and implement talent acquisition strategies, including assessing internal candidates, determining sources for external talent, sourcing passive and diverse candidates, and developing talent pipelines for hard-to-fill positions
  • Partner with hiring managers in the screening process; advise on suitability of candidates for vacancies, and provide guidance on the reference checking process
  • Establish and maintain relationships with professional associations, employment agencies, search firms and others in the talent acquisition field who can assist in talent searches
  • Responsible for providing training and assistance to hiring managers with interviewing for desired skills and abilities, competencies and attributes to ensure new hire success
  • Ensure that search committees on all campuses receive the HR charge and consultation in their process
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on applicant tracking system, and assess how best to maximize use of the system
  • Manage ancillary procedures and systems, such as reference and background checks, as well as relocation policies, that support an overall successful recruitment process

Additional responsibilities may be assigned by the supervisor.




  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or a related field
  • Minimum of 8-10 years of experience as a “hands-on” recruiter/ talent acquisition specialist in a mid-to-high volume recruitment/ talent acquisition operation in a complex, matrixed organization
  • Experience using multiple forms of talent acquisition resources (e.g., social media, staffing agencies) to identify and attract talent
  • Demonstrated experience utilizing and leveraging applicant tracking systems and analytics
  • Demonstrated ability to navigate complex organizational cultures and structures with limited formal authority
  • Strong knowledge of employment laws and regulations
  • A solid understanding of talent acquisition branding; demonstrated experience developing and executing successful recruitment strategies to improve quality of candidates, including social media strategies
  • Ability to collaborate with hiring managers and others to effectively attract and on-board talent



  • Experience with iCIMS a plus
  • Experience providing talent acquisition services to staff and faculty in a college or university setting a plus
  • HR certification a plus
