The Associate Dean for the School of Nursing (SON) at the Worcester campus provides administrative leadership, oversight, and coordination of the Graduate Nursing program including planning, development, implementation, and evaluation.


  • Provides administrative leadership, oversight, and coordination of the Graduate Nursing Programs, including planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of the SON Graduate Program tracks
  • In collaboration with the Dean, Assistant Dean, and Track Coordinators, leads the development of all graduate programs, including innovative curriculum and educational partnerships
  • Conducts periodic studies to determine program viability, trends, and success; conducts formative and summative assessments of student/stakeholder feedback related to graduate programs
  • Oversees the planning and implementation of new graduate tracks
  • Assumes responsibility for the evaluation of all programs/courses and faculty engaged in teaching within the graduate programs
  • Provides oversight and leadership for all accreditation reports related to graduate nursing programs
  • In collaboration with the Dean, develops and implements an annual plan for teaching workload responsibilities in all graduate programs
  • Engages in implementing strategic initiatives, including new innovative programs, curricular revisions and enrollment targets
  • Provides consultation to the Dean on a regular basis regarding program strength/weaknesses; student feedback; faculty concerns/issues, student concerns/issues; enrollment, etc.
  • Oversees the planning, implementation, and evaluation of the annual Graduate Nursing Three-Day Residency Program in May
  • Recruits, interviews and recommends prospective core and adjunct faculty and staff; evaluates faculty performance
  • Administers University procedures and work rules
  • Evaluates graduate faculty and campus-based support staff
  • Recruits, advises, and counsels students
  • Mediates problems between students and faculty
  • Reviews all course reports and works with faculty in the spirit of continuous quality improvement.
  • Serves as the SON liaison to MCPHS Online
  • Works cooperatively with the Program Track Coordinators to coordinate and manage day-to-day issues related to the graduate nursing students/program
  • Works collaboratively with others to ensure that all accreditation standards are upheld and prepares accreditation reports as necessary
  • Provides onsite guidance, mentoring, leadership and professional role modeling to faculty and assists the faculty in their growth and development as teachers and scholars
  • Teaches course offerings as time and efficiency of operation permit
  • Develops, coordinates and maintains relationships with internal and external constituencies.
  • Assists the Dean to prepare, recommend and administer the School of Nursing budget and the interface with the online budget
  • Demonstrates judgment, planning, organization, effective problem solving, initiative and creativity in dealing with a variety of situations involving the day to day and semester calendar challenges
  • Demonstrates strong interpersonal skills in order to effectively work with faculty, students and other members of the MCPHS community, the clinical partners and the community at large

 Additional responsibilities may be assigned by the supervisor.




  • Earned doctorate in nursing (or related field plus a master's degree in nursing) and ten years’ experience in baccalaureate or higher degree nursing education
  • National certification as a nurse practitioner
  • Demonstrated evidence of published research, successful grant acquisition, effective oral and written communication skills and effective interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated evidence of excellence in leadership and administrative skills essential in a complex academic organization
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with the Dean and with members of the SON leadership team in the implementation of the curriculum, carrying out the mission and vision of the SON, achieving program outcomes, and ensuring that accreditation standards are met
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor/coach faculty and staff to achieve professional goals
  • Graduate level teaching experience in nursing including experience in mentoring graduate level student Capstone/thesis/dissertation initiatives
  • Demonstrated evidence of excellence in teaching online as well as within the traditional classroom
  • Participates in securing training grants to support educational graduate and undergraduate programs and students
  • Unencumbered licensure to practice as a registered nurse in New Hampshire and Massachusetts
  • Collaborates within the SON as well as with schools/programs across the university in providing innovative inter-professional education to BSN and MSN students



  • Previous experience with Blackboard platform and online teaching experience are preferred.
  • Previous experience teaching at the Doctoral level.
  • Previous experience mentoring /guiding students in fulfillment of doctoral level projects (dissertations, Capstone, etc)

Physical requirements:

  • Position requires sitting, standing, walking, stooping, bending and keyboarding
  • Abiltiy to lift up to 50 pounds
  • Requires that the individual meet all technical standards expected of students as delineated in the SON Handbook
