    The Associate Controller is responsible for accounting, reporting and financial administration pertaining to College operations and Operating Funds business activities. The Associate Controller adapts, improves and optimizes accounting, reporting and management of operating funds based on ongoing changes in College operations and is responsible for periodic review and testing, and may re-design and implement internal controls pertinent to College operations.  Responsibilities also include:


    • Prepare month-end work papers, bank reconciliations and journal entries for MCPHS University funds.
    • Prepare balance sheet account reconciliations.
    • Recommend adjustments and prepare appropriate journal entries.
    • Review, oversee and, where necessary, record all cash and receivables activity.
    • Reconcile all inter-fund activity.
    • Recommend adjustments and prepare appropriate journal entries.
    • Coordinate timely month-end closings.
    • Communicate with other departments to ensure that needed data is obtained quickly for timely completion of fund accounting.
    • Develop expertise in accounting processes, G/L systems, and reporting requirements. 
    • Coordinate with Chief Business Officer (CBO) improvement of systems and maintenance of chart of accounts.
    • Prepare standard and ad hoc basis analyses for review with CBO.
    • Prepare any resulting journal entries with appropriate supporting analysis and backup.

    Additional responsibilities may be assigned by the supervisor.




    • CPA designation
    • A bachelor's degree in Accounting
    • Five years of professional accounting experience
    • Advanced, professional level understanding of accrual and cash basis accounting principles
    • Strong practical accounting skills, including computational and variance analysis
    • Expert competency in using computerized general ledger systems
    • Strong analytical skills and use of spreadsheets for work-paper preparation
    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
    • Ability to effectively organize and complete tasks in a high-volume, fast-moving environment
