  • Overview

    The School of Arts and Sciences seeks an adjunct faculty member to teach Community Mapping online during the Spring 2019 semester. This is a Master's level course that is an elective for Master of Public Health (MPH) candidates with a concentration in Community Health and other related graduate programs.


    In this course, students will learn about the historical roots of community mapping and understand how to collect, analyze, and represent valuable knowledge about the communities around us. Recently, there has been advancement in digital maps and geographic information systems (GIS), and other methods such as, Google Maps and Fulcrum. These results can be powerful tools to better understand community health, and in turn, improve the overall health and wellbeing of the population.  




    • An advanced degree (Masters, PhD, or DrPH) in public health or a related field (e.g., sociology, healthcare or a health-related field)
    • Previous experience teaching public health courses, preferably in a Master’s program
    • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills
    • A commitment to graduate education
    • Ability to engage and motivate students



    • Experience in online instruction and ability to develop online courses
    • Practical experience in a public health agency, non-profit or other setting at the local, state, tribal, territorial or federal level
